We are excited to share information about the New York City Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) 2026 —
a paid summer work opportunity for young people ages 14–24.
SYEP provides students with paid work experience, career exploration, and job readiness skills during the summer.
Who Can Apply
Students are eligible if they:
- Are 14–24 years old as of July 1, 2026
- Live in New York City (Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, or Staten Island)
- Are legally eligible to work in the United States (Social Security card required)
Priority Groups
- NYCHA residents
- Students from partner schools
- Youth with disabilities
Key Dates
- January 27, 2026: Applications open
- March 14, 2026: Application deadline (some providers may accept late applications for waitlists)
- April 2026: Mandatory orientation for selected participants
- June 23 – August 1, 2026: Program dates (no work on July 4)
Program Details
- Students work 25 hours per week for 6 weeks
- Participants earn NYC minimum wage: $16.50/hour in 2026
- Total earnings are up to $2,700
- Jobs are available in areas such as healthcare, technology, education, green energy, parks, and community organizations
- Some roles are in-person, remote, or hybrid
Younger students (ages 14–15) participate in project-based learning, while older students may join internships.

- Most placements are selected through a lottery system
- Returning participants may qualify for higher-paying roles
- SYEP is open to undocumented students who meet NYC residency and work eligibility requirements
- Transportation is not provided, but NYC students may use Kids Ride Free Metro access
- Students who are waitlisted may still be contacted if spots open later in the spring
